EuroPride 2019 cordially invites you to the Pride concert with LGBTIQ focus. Students*, alumni and professors* of the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna will play the concert MARCH OF THE WOMEN* from 19:30.
The piece of the same name by the British composer Ethel Smyth was written in 1910 and became the anthem of the English women’s movement. Ethel Smyth (1858 - 1944), who mainly lived in relationships with women, was a composer and suffragette who advocated women’s rights and equal rights. Her love for Vienna has always been great, which is why she has given numerous concerts in the city.
In addition to Smyth’s compositions, works by Pëtr Il’ič Čajkovskij, whom she met personally, and her friends Elisabeth von Herzogenberg and Mathilde Kralik will also be heard. Works by Vilma Webenau and Reynaldo Hahn round off the contemporary* programme.
Moderation: Andreas Brunner (QWIEN - Centre for Queer History)
The concert will take place in the main building, section A/Joseph Haydn-Saal.
